What causes kidney disease?

Kidney disease occurs when there is a failure of normal kidney filtration, reabsorption, and/or secretion.

70% of kidney ailments are caused by diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

Other causes include autoimmune ailments, genetic diseases, drug use, and trauma.

When our kidneys stop functioning properly, they can lose their ability to regulate the blood, which causes blood pressure to rise and toxins to accumulate. A vicious cycle ensues in which the kidneys are damaged by the high blood pressure and toxins, causing further kidney disease and greater hypertension.
